Year 1 and 2 Students

Welcome to 2015!!!!

The Year 2 students have been learning about tenses:

Yesterday - Today - Tomorrow

This is an area of the English Language that needs lots or practice. We are learning through work in the Esol classroom and also through actually doing an action which we can then discuss.  This is a fun way to learn!

The Year 2 students are going on
school trip to the beach.

In Esol, we have been learning lots of
exciting things about the beach.

Goodbye to 2014!!!!

Making Jam Sandwiches!

Yr 1 and 2 children are enjoying making jam sandwiches.  They gave Mrs Howard the instructions on how to make the sandwiches - very interesting!!

After the sandwiches were made, the children ate them - Yummy!
Then they washed their dishes before going back to their classroom.

Mrs Howard.

The Room 15 Esol group of Mao, Catherine and Oliver have been working with Mrs Mulder
on healthy food. We looked at how milk gets to our table from a cow. We also looked at the process of wheat to bread. The children sequenced pictures then wrote about the process involved. Then they published on Educreations and practised their oral language.

Story sequencing in Esol!

Baby Kangaroo and Sneaky Snake

Big Bubba Hippo

The Three Billy Goats Gruff.
The children in Year 2 have made their own puppets and they used them to tell the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff.  Here is one example.
Mrs Howard
The Room 22 Year Two ESOL group read the Three BIlly Goats Gruff with their teacher Mrs Mulder. They did some writing involving looking at the different characters in the story. Then they made masks and practised a rhyming play depicting the story. Finally they presented their play in front of Room 22 who enjoyed their performance very much.
Here is a lovely story planned, written and narrated by Yisen.

A group of Y2 children have been learning to identify key words from a story and have used those words to create sentences.  Here is some of their hard work.  Mrs Howard.

The Year Two ESOL group from Room 12  read "What's That Smell" with teacher Mrs Mulder. Then we worked on a science experiment about smelling. We learnt that smell is one of our five main senses. Our nose is the organ that helps us identify smells. Smells are made up of thousands of tiny chemical particles that float through the air. We used our sense of smell by sniffing, to try to guess eleven different smells. We learnt that each nostril has 10 million nerve endings They interact with the chemicals and send the message to our brains. After completing the test we discussed the results and answered questions about the results.

Yr 2 working with bubbles!

Our Year 2 children have been expanding their Term 2 Topic 'Science' by estimating and experimenting with bubbles.  Here is an example of some of the work they have been doing.

Mrs Howard

Some Esol students from Room 15 have been busy creating a story from a picture only book.  After lots of brainstorming, the group created there own story, wrote their words and narrated the story onto Educreations.  This work is perfect for helping with their writing skills and improving their English oracy skills.  Enjoy!!

Mrs Howard

Our Rm 12 ESOL group working with Mrs Mulder consists of Min Woo, Yuna, Lang, Michael and Adam. We worked on a book called: The greatest Show on Earth written by Patty Haley and illustrated by Reiko Woodford-Robinson. we have been learning to: 1)Create a combined group ending of our own to a story we have read 2)Draw pictures for our story, cut them and then sequence them in order. 3)Write a caption for each picture in sequence and then sequence in order. 4)learn the names of the dinosaurs in the story and use them in our writing 5) Read our story orally and make an Educreations story sequence for our ESOL blog. When we finished we pasted our stories into our books. The ending we created was: It was an erupting volcano. T rex was scared. he was shivering and shaking with fear. "Are you OK," asked the other dinosaurs. "I'm really frightened that the hot burning lava will reach us and kill us all," cried t Rex. "Don't worry, they replied. "It's far. far away." "They gave T Rex a big hug. "Thank you," sighed T Rex."I'm never going to be mean to you again because you helped me cThe Room 12 ESOL group ( Yuna, Adam and Minwoo) coloured, cut out and made an Easter story. We wrote a story in our books and then read it out on Educreations.  The Room 12 ESOL group ( Yuna, Adam and Minwoo) coloured, cut out and made an Easter story. 1. What a great story! I really enjoyed listening to your story and like how each child drew a picture, put it into the sequence of the story and learnt the names of the dinosaurs! Awesome effort.
